DIVERSIFIKASI RASIONALITAS PEKERJAAN BURUH TANI (PEASANT) MENJADI PEDAGANG KAKI LIMA (PKL) DI KECAMATAN JUNREJO KOTA BATU

Batu City as a resting place triggers the development of tourism in Batu City. In the tourism sector there are many tourist attractions in Batu City. Besides tourism, Batu City used to have abundant agricultural products, especially in the apple sector. In general, in the range of 2009 to 2013 agricultural production in Batu City experienced a decline. The impact of the decline in agriculture has made agricultural workers in a difficult economic position. Initially, farm workers hung their lives from the agricultural sector and began to abandon their farming activities. The rapid development of tourism in Batu City has made farm workers have to shift to adjust to existing changes. So this makes the diversification of the rationality of the work of agricultural laborers into street vendors. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive type. The subject of research on the diversification of the rationality of the work of farm laborers (Peasant) into street vendors in Junrejo Subdistrict, Batu City is farm workers who choose to leave their jobs as farm laborers to turn into street vendors and farm laborers who still remain farm laborers but also work as street vendors. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, interviews and documentation. As for data analysis techniques using data reduction, data categorization, synthesis. In this study, the technique of checking the validity of data uses persistent observation, triangulation and peer-detection (peer review through discussion). The result of this research is the scheme of voluntaristic action of farm laborers in achieving their economic needs in the street vendor sector stems from the rapid tourism in Batu City. The farm laborer has an action on the sluggishness of agriculture by utilizing the tourism development that is being stretched in Batu City. Some of his actions were to become street vendors in the Batu City Square, to open other businesses and become online drivers. One of the rational actions of farm workers is to diversify work. Farmers in diversifying work are based on certain considerations. The work of farm laborers is very heavy, the small income makes the work of farm laborers not to be used as the basis of the economy.
