PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK KULIT SEMANGKA (Citrullus lanatus) SEBAGAI ANTIJAMUR TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN JAMUR Candida albicans SECARA IN VITRO

Background: In this last 20-25 years, it is been recorded that infection caused by kandida is increasing. Many researchers stated that Candida’s resistance has increased to Fluconazole and Echinocandins. Several studies have shown the side effects of azole drug that can cause liver dysfunction ranging from increased serum transaminase, fulminant hepatotoxicity to liver damage. In the previous research, watermelon rind can be used as anti-bacteria on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli; and anti-fungi on Trichophyton mentagrophytes. It is because watermelon rind consist of saponins, tannins, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, and carotenoids. Objective: To know the effect of watermelon skin extract (Citrullus lanatus) to C. albicans growth by using in vitro. Method: True experimental post test only with group control design, using tube dilution test method with watermelon rimd extract concentration of 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%, 10%, 0 %. The data analysis was using One Way Anova and Post hoc Bonferroni. Discussion and Result: The Minimum Bactericidal Concentration is at 30% concentration. One Way Anova test showed significant differences between treatment groups with a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05).
