THE USE OF SMART PHONE FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES AMONG ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS UNIVERSITY OF MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG

Smartphone is one of the communication tool that performs many of the functions which one can provide convenience to the users to exchange the information with other people like execute to calls, send text message, and use others features like social media, etc. On the other hand using smartphone have some benefit like smartphone keeps your informed, they are convenient, staying connected, fun and games, and so on. The Objectives of this research is to know the use of smartphone for educational purposes and also to know what the most dominant usage of is using smartphones. This research used descriptive qualitative design to draw the data about the use of smartphone for education purposes. The instrument used structured interview; the respondents ware all students of English Language Education Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Meanwhile 10 respondents were interview as the data; they are students who use smartphone for educational purposes. After analysing the data, the researcher presents about the research discussion based on the research findings. The research has been conducted on 17 May to 23 May 2018 by finding the use of smartphone for educational purposes. After doing the analysis there were 4 functions like searching information, searching the difficult word, for taking a note, and recording of materials of smartphone as an educational purpose from 10 respondents. From the findings has been done by researcher, the researcher found the most dominant answer from the respondents in accordance with the function of smartphone in educational field as the main problem in this study. The respondents said that the function of smartphone was searching the information related to the learning process needs because that was the main reason having a smartphone if the people really have a clear mind to use the smartphone in positive way
