THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ENGLISH MOVIES IN TEACHING LISTENING FOR THE SECOND GRADE STUDENTS IN SMP TPI SIDOARJO

Teaching listening is one of the duties that has to be conducted by teachers of English to improve the student's skills in English. Implementation of English movies is one of the important part of success in teaching and learning process. Especially in teaching listening, the students will be more attracted. Movie is one of the interesting media to teach the students. There are stories to follow and observe by watching movies. This study was focused on the implementation of English movie in teaching listening used by the English teacher in the second grade student of Taman Pendidikan Islam Junior High School Sidoarjo. The purposes of this study were: (1) to describe the way the English teacher implemented English movies in teaching listening; (2) to know the difficulties of using English movies; and (3) to know the way the English teacher coped with the difficulties of using English movies for listening in Taman Pendidikan Islam Junior High School Sidoarjo. The design used in this study was descriptive qualitative design because the study aimed to describe the information of the actual class activities. The instruments used to collect the data were observation field notes and interview. The findings showed that the English movie used by the English teacher in Taman Pendidikan Islam Junior High School Sidoarjo were, silent viewing technique and sound only activities technique. The findings also showed that the teacher had difficulties in using English movie.Those difficulties were from the movie, the students did not hear enough and the students found new vocabulary. The researcher found that the teacher had the way to cope with the difficulties, they were: choosing the suitable movie for the students, repeating the movie two to three times, explaining a movie trailer, and making groups of work
