Compounding of recycled clothes with polypropylene-nanoclay for injection molding feedstock

Polymers were used in various applications in everyday life, for instance, some of the clothes were made from polymer. The waste made from using clothes does have effects of the environment and at the same time depleting raw materials derived from crude oil. Technically, most of the polymer should be able to recycle. Therefore, this research was conducted to propose an approach to recycle the used clothes by transforming the product into secondary raw material for manufacturing. This research started by preparing four different samples through injection molding which were polypropylene-nanoclay, with 0%, 1%, 2% and 3% of recycled clothing in the form of fibres. All of these injected mold samples were tested by using the Universal Testing Machine. From these prepared samples, the mechanical property was analysed, in term of Modulus Young. According to the results, the value of Modulus Young for 3% of recycled clothes was 502.10 MPa, which was better than 0% recycled cloth. It showed that this sample has more strength compared to samples of polypropylene-nanoclay without recycled cloth fibre. These compounded materials can be used in the application of plastic bottle, container, automotive component/cover and more. The outcome of this project should be beneficial in future of plastic manufacturing process; in terms reducing the cost and consumption of raw materials
