The aim of this thesis was to enhance our understanding of the combined effects of inbreeding and environmental stress on plant performance. Inbreeding, the mating among close relatives, reduces the fitness offspring in most organisms. However, the magnitude of the resulting fitness reduction (inbreeding depression, ID) often differs among environments. It is often assumed that ID is higher under more stressful conditions.
