The information recorded early public library beginnings in fledgling frontier communities to give us an idea of how readers had access to books in that time period.Are there any connections between the public libraries enumerated on the 1875 and 1885 Kansas state census and the public libraries that exist there today? Or were these libraries simply the first step for these frontier communities to recognize and support the current public library model? This research documents the complete census returns from those years and the data that was noted in each county and township about the public libraries that were in existence in 19th century Kansas.Ope
