Background: Contemporary nursing literature emphasises that health and wellbeing factors should be maximised to achieve positive outcomes. The role of the person in this process and their contribution to their own wellbeing is crucial to promote such involvement if the ideals of NHS Scotland's quality strategy are to be realised.
