Within Dumfries and Galloway is there an availability to increase youth theatre as a touring sustainable after school group?

This dissertation aimed to investigate within Dumfries and Galloway would there an availability to increase youth theatre as a touring sustainable after school group. In doing this it looked at the importance of youth theatre in a community, what is or isn't already available and explored the possibility of setting up a travelling youth theatre by looking into the area, accessibility, interest of pupils, parents and teachers, suitability for people interested, costings, sustainability, funding and opportunities that would be available. The ambition was that it would prove there is an interest and a need for youth theatre and to improve local opportunities for young people within this region. Hardly any research has taken place in this in this part of Scotland therefore this dissertation is mainly based off primary research. Much of this study came from the knowledge and first-hand experience of those who have worked in youth theatre, which was incredibly useful in concluding the need and basics of this report. The rest of the data gathered came from participants within Dumfries and Galloway, delivering personal opinions, experiences and determining the interest of such a project if it were to take place. Through this, valuable insights were discovered about the local receptive communities. Although the whole of Dumfries and Galloway was not studied in this investigation, the county of Kirkcudbrightshire was studied to provide an in-depth analysis of how to create a travelling youth theatre and how it could run. Further research would be done to consider branching out to other parts of the region. The concluded results of this investigation show there was a keen interest to develop youth theatre within Dumfries and Galloway. Alongside this support was shown from schools, parents and also larger parties such as Youth Theatre Arts Scotland. The project has shown it could be accessible to all children, and prove an engaging experience to their development. While having been one of the first projects to research into the rural area of Dumfries and Galloway's youth theatre scene, although not covering a vast space, it has provided a detailed insight into the running of a project such as a travelling youth theatre and theoretically shown it could be a success.ba_dapunpub2837_ethesesunpu
