How did we arrive at the level of censorship currently exhibited within western film and media?

This academic study aims to explore the question of how we have arrived at the level of censorship currently exhibited within western film and media. It delves into concepts which are intertwined with censorship, such as propaganda and political correctness, and it investigates how such concepts manifest within western film and media. The study forms a discursive essay which seeks to form conceptual links between how certain events can relate to a much broader context. It focuses on the time period between the September the 11th terrorist attacks until present and examines how the events of 9/11 have effected censorship within film and media over the last sixteen years. Through the appropriate underpinning of theory taken from relevant academic literature, this study explores how the ever changing post 9/11 political era has changed western film and media as we knew it. It compiles both a bibliography and a filmography as much of the discursive content has involved in depth analysis of different films. This study produces a section of interpretations which seek to display the different conclusions which this study has reached on the subject area of western censorship, propaganda and politics and how this has affected western film and media. The conclusion focuses on how, post 9/11 censorship has created an increase in political correctness.
