To examine the sustainability of cruise tourism with reference to the National Trust for Scotland cruises

The main aim of the research is to examine the sustainability of cruise ship operations, with specific reference to the National Trust for Scotland cruises. The study analyses the issue of sustainability and cruise tourism, identifying linkages between them. The topic of cruise tourism can be considered controversial in the literature, as academics are not unanimous as to which are greater- the positive or negative impacts of cruising. This leaves the matter of sustainability in cruising uncertain. Therefore, the research uses the case of the National Trust for Scotland cruises to verify if a cruise operation can be carried out sustainably. Upon the conduction of primary research with help of ten interviews, it became clear that the National Trust for Scotland succeeds at organising their operation sustainably. Yet, areas of further improvement for the organisation have been identified and respectively suggested in the recommendations section of this study.
