The Essence of Home: The Older Person's Perspective

The word home is used often within everyday life however when people use it, do they think about what the word actually means and what home is for them. Older people spend most of their time in their home and they want to remain in their home as long as possible. The literature review demonstrates that home in older age is a significant part of their life. Occupational Therapists provide intervention to clients within their home and can adapt and change the home environment when required and when appropriate so they are able to use and move around the environment easier. Therefore Occupational Therapists should have an understanding of home and what this means for older people to preserve this when providing intervention within the home environment. The current literature mainly focuses on older women's perspective with only a few research articles recruiting men.
