Patient centered care

Person-centred care is not so much a specific and prescriptive model that organises care for an individual person, as an approach to nursing care. There is potential for person-centredness in almost every interaction between you and your patients. As a philosophy of care, it promotes respect, shared decision making, empowerment and enablement, and respect for autonomy. The importance and value of PCC is that it ensures people are central partners in decisions about their health and care. This approach can improve quality of care and help make funding go further. It can be successful only through the adoption, integration and engagement of its core principles by all professionals and managers across the various care services which an individual might access
