International audienceGroundwater age tracers provide essential characteristics of residence time distributions in aquifers. In few cases, enough tracers are available to identify a priori selected distribution shapes (lumped parameter models). In most cases, however, the information contained in the tracer concentrations is not enough to constrain any relevant distribution shape. Other issues also arise including the lack of definition of the distribution shape and strong temporal variations of the younger part of the distribution that cannot be followed by the measured tracers.
