Aluminium and aluminium-based alloys are widely in industry due to the corrosion passivity, lighter weight, yet – in several cases – comparable strength with steel. Often, the material is used “as-cast“, that means that composition, macro- and microstructure of the material emerged during the casting defines its behaviour under different loads. Yet, convective flows generally arise in casting processes performed on-ground because of gravity and modify local solidification conditions, and, consequently, solute distribution and affect properties of material.
