Humanism, posthumanism and human identity

El posthumanismo aparece amparado en la pretensión de mejorar indefinidamente las capacidades humanas, mediante el recurso a los más innovadores recursos tecnocientíficos, desde la ingeniería genética a la inteligencia artificial, pasando por la nanotecnología y la nanorobótica. Su visión optimista del uso de tales avances científicos y tecnológicos, le permite generar una ideología de progreso indefinido aplicada a la realidad humana. Los planteamientos posthumanistas introducen elementos en la definición de la identidad humana que conllevan una transformación profunda de la misma. En primer término, por la consiguiente inaceptación de las limitaciones humanas que dichos planteamientos conllevan. En el plano intelectual, el del rendimiento físico y el de la definición sexual, las transformaciones que el posthumanismo propone conllevarían que los elementos en que basamos la definición de la identidad humana, que siempre aparecen referidos a limitaciones específicas, dejarían de tener sentido. Sin embargo, en contra de lo que pueda a primera vista parecer, esa desaparición o difuminado de los límites no conduciría a una definición ni a una vivencia más satisfactorias de la identidad personal. Las promesas posthumanistas ponen de manifiesto la oscuridad que tantas veces acompaña a la aparente luminosidad. Posthumanist approaches introduce elements in the definition of human identity that entail a profound transformation of it. In the first place, due to the consequent unacceptance of the human limitations that they entail. In the intellectual, the physical and the sexual, the transformations that posthumanism proposes would entail that the elements on which we base the definition of human identity, which always appear to refer to specific limitations, would have no meaning. However, contrary to what it may seem at first sight, the disappearance or blurring of the limits would not lead to a more satisfactory definition or experience of personal identity.
