Hydraulic fracturing (HF) is a mulit-scale and multi-physics process which makes numerical modelling challenging. Conventional numerical models focus on multi-physics nature of HF but the multiscale nature is compromised by idealization of reservoir to be continuous, homogeneous and isotropic. However, natural fractures take a significant role in the success of HF for exploration of unconventional resources like Shale gas. Advancement in microseismic monitoring provides useful data for simulation in a much greater details. There is an urgent need to develop a suitable numerical tool for multi-scale threedimensional simulation to better understand the roles of discontinuities and heterogeneity in reservoir and its interaction with HF, especi...
