Kinetic study of the gasification of chinchilla coal char in carbon dioxide

Experimental work was carried out to study the kinetics of the carbon dioxide gasification of a coal char. The coal char was prepared from Australian Chinchilla coal by pyrolysing it at 900 °C in a tube furnace for 9 minutes in inert environment. The coal char was subsequently sieved to different sizes. The coal chars were gasified in a Thermo- Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) with a mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen, at various CO Concentrations (10-80%) and temperatures (800-875 °C). In the present study the reaction rate of the pyrolysed coal was obtained and interpreted by Random Pore Model. The experimental data of weight loss was used to determine the kinetic parameters for carbon dioxide gasification which are to be used in the numerical modeling of underground coal gasification
