Contains fulltext : 90323.pdf (publisher's version ) (Closed access)Using a multiple cohort design, we compared symptoms and personality functioning (SCL-90, BDI-II, STAI, IIP-64, MMPI-2) of patients (N = 231) in different phases of long-term psychoanalytic treatment (before, during, end, follow-up). Our results confirmed findings from earlier meta-analyses that long-term psychoanalytic treatments achieve large effect sizes in reducing symptomatic distress (d = 1.19-1.27) and moderate effect sizes in reducing personality pathology (d = 0.52-0.79).
