Analysis of the volatility of the international price of petroleum and its effect on the commercial balance in Colombia

Petroleum and its derivatives have been major players in the economic and social development of nations at a global level, since a large part of economic activities see this energy as their primary source, which is why it is quite difficult to imagine a world without the facilities and advantages offered by this source of energy that are innumerable. The abundance of this primary good has determined a series of political tensions and conflicts of a warlike nature, which have caused instability in the institutions and in the economic and energy policies of the nations both exporters of this good and importers of it, hence the premise that the abundance of primary resources can cause wealth or on the contrary it can lead a nation to absolute poverty.El petróleo y sus derivados han sido actores principales para el desarrollo económico y social de las naciones a nivel global ya que gran parte de las actividades económicas ven en esta fuente primaria el sustento energético, por ello es bastante difícil imaginar un mundo sin las facilidades y ventajas que ofrece esta fuente de energía que son innumerables. La abundancia de este bien primario ha determinado una serie de tensiones políticas y conflictos de carácter bélico, que han ocasionado inestabilidad en las instituciones y en las políticas económicas y energéticas de las naciones tanto exportadoras de este bien como importadoras del mismo, de ahí la premisa que la abundancia de los recursos primarios puede ocasionar riqueza o por el contrario puede llevar a una nación a la pobreza absoluta
