"The transition to adulthood is a time of development and growth, but can also involve some degree of stress. Young adulthood is associated with greater risk of mental health problems, as evidenced by a higher rate of serious mental illness among young adults compared to any other age group (Child Trends Databank, 2015). Further, the onset for 75 percent of mental health disorders occurs by age 24; 50 percent of mental health disorders occurs by age 14 (National Institute of Mental Health [NIMH], 2014).
