International audienceThe design of Porous Silicon (PSi) integrated micro-resonators is studied for both surface sensing and homogeneous sensing at 1550 nm to optimize the sensors' sensitivity and Limit of Detection (LOD) as a function of the porosity, dimensions and propagation losses of PSi ridge waveguides. A model for estimating the different contributions to the losses of PSi waveguide as a function of the dimensions and the porosity is then developed to allow calculation of the performance of the sensor. Low refractive index difference and high porosities mean that higher sensor performance can be obtained due to the reduction of surface scattering losses as the waveguide dimensions become larger.
