Due to high energy consumption and environmental pollution generated in the processing and use of synthetic fibers, the need for replacement of these fibers with natural fibers in composites manufacture has increased. The advantages of natural fibers over synthetic fibers include low cost, biodegradability and non-toxicity. In this study, as received raffia palm fibers (RPF) and those whose surface were chemically modified using 10 wt.% NaOH for 5 h at 60oC and 0.6 M H2SO4 for 2 h at 100oC were compression molded to produce HDPE matrix composites containing 5, 10, 20, and 30 wt.% of RPFs.
