Cationic lipids have been comprehensively studied as non-viral vectors for gene therapy, focusing on improving the gene transfer efficiency and the safety profile. However, clinical applications of cationic lipid/DNA lipoplexes are restricted due to their low physical stability in aqueous formulations.
