El primer objetivo del trabajo es ofrecer una clasificación de los distintos hechos de soborno a partir de dos dimensiones: quién comienza el intercambio corrupto, y en qué medida los involucrados cumplen la norma social. El segundo objetivo es proveer una revisión y un análisis crítico de la literatura sobre experimentos de coimas, en función de las categorías definidas en primer término. Se muestra que las normas sociales no están implementadas debidamente en los juegos experimentales, y se explica que por ello las categorías de soborno no están debidamente modeladas.
