Holdninger til kjønnsminoriteter i Norge: Hvem mener hva om transpersoner?

The purpose of this study was to examine attitudes toward gender minorities in Norway, and identify background variables that may explain differences in attitudes towards transpeople in Norway. This paper will present theory relevant to the understanding of gender and attitudes from a social constructionist point of view. Based on a systematic review of previous research five hypotheses were formed. These hypotheses was tested using data from a web-based nationwide representative survey, conducted in 2013 among 1,250 Norwegians from 18-86 years. As predicted by the hypotheses, this study found that gender minorities are a subject of more negative evaluations than heterosexuals, gays, lesbians and bisexuals. Men, people with an authoritarian personality, those attending religious gatherings and those who consider themselves to be religious have more negative attitudes toward transpeople. Respondents in the youngest age group, those who had been in contact with transpeople and those with a modern understanding of gender has more positive attitudes toward transpeople. For men, those with high education had more positive attitudes toward transpeople than those in the group with the lowest education, but there was no correlation between attitudes toward transpeople and education for women. This study did not find support for differences in attitudes toward transpeople on the basis of income, life satisfaction or place of residence. The results of a regression analysis revealed that authoritarianism, having a modern understanding of gender, age, and previous contact with a transperson were all factors that could account for unique variance in attitudes toward transpeople
