DESIGN: Retrospective. METHOD: We retrospectively determined AFP concentrations in amniotic fluid obtained from 7981 women who had undergone amniocentesis for karyotyping and AFP assessment. An AFP concentration greater than 2.5 times the median was considered abnormal.
