Arterial pulse is an established source of information for the clinical assessment of cardiovascular health. The central aortic pressure is known to be a better predictor of cardiovascular status than the peripheral pressure. The carotid arterial pulse is considered to be the best indicator of the central aortic pressure. The present work deals with the development of a novel noninvasive probe based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor for the real-time acquisition of the pulse waveform in the carotid arterial site.
