A review, with 18 references is given. The geometrical aspects of coincidence site lattices in explaining metallurgical phenomena are discussed with emphasis on generating functions and combinations of rotations around a given axis. The coincidence site lattices which are not equivalent to twinned configurations will be emphasized. The contrast from twins and coincidence site lattices in field-ion micrographs is also considered
