X-ray diffraction and powder second harmonic generation (SHG) studies were carried out on $KTiOPO_4$ (KTP) synthesized under different conditions. Diffraction intensities of the doublet 2 2 1 and 0 2 2 and SHG signal variations in different KTP samples were studied and correlated to oxygen content in the samples. It is found that KTP sample synthesized in oxygen atmosphere shows stronger SHG signal
