Enzymatic ring-opening polymerization of $\epsilon$-caprolactone by various lipases was investigated in toluene at various temperatures. The determination of molecular weight and structural identification was carried out with gel permeation chromatography and proton NMR, respectively. Among the various lipases employed, an immobilized lipase from Candida antartica B (Novozym 435) showed the highest catalytic activity. The polymerization of $\epsilon$ - caprolactone by Novozym 435 showed an optimal temperature of 65°C and an optimum toluene content of 50/50 v/v of toluene and $\epsilon$ - caprolactone.
