A host of theories exist about the causes of Self-Injurious Behaviour (SIB) (organic or genetic disorders, psychiatric syndromes, behaviouristic models, socio-cultural theories, etc.). Most experts assume that SIB usually results from a combination of biologic, psychic and situational factors. This research project focused on the situation context of SIB. We observed 22 intellectually disabled people.
