Los trabajos prácticos de laboratorio sobre efecto Doppler óptico no son una tarea sencilla, tanto en el diseño como en su realización para fines didácticos. La principal dificultad es el movimiento de la fuente, ya que pequeñas perturbaciones del orden de la longitud de onda de la luz introducen ruidos en la medición. El uso de un espejo giratorio, en el que un haz se refleja desde el lado de avance y otro es reflejado desde la parte en retroceso, minimiza problemas de ruido.
