Particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes, inhaled insulin as a novel therapeutic option for glycaemic control could be an alternative to subcutaneous insulin. Phase III clinical studies have shown glycaemic equivalence between inhaled insulin and conventional subcutaneous insulin.
