Energy is one of Ireland’s and the UK’s biggest commercial and environmental concerns. Despite government campaigns for everyone to play their part in minimising its consumption, reports suggest an estimated 20–30% of energy generated is wasted. Further and higher education institutions (FHEs) are no exception to this wastage using an extensive collection of ICT equipment and technology for teaching and research. Such technology is often left running when not in use creating energy waste, increasing running costs and carbon emissions.
