This volume is the indirect result of the papers presented at an international conference held at the Université catholique de Louvain on 27-28 February 2014. The title of this conference was “Topography and Toponymy in Perspectives and Prospects” (“Topographie et toponymie au Proche-Orient ancient: Projets et développements”). It was organized in the framework of the Work Package 3 (“Historical Geography”) of the IAP Project “Greater Mesopotamia: Reconstrcution of Its Environment and History” (IAP 7/14) financed by the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) and brought together both Belgian and international scholars working on historical geography.
