Oxygen is essential in wound healing and hypoxia is described as a major cause of wound healing impairment. Tissue oxygenation is an important parameter in the clinical management of chronic wounds such as diabetic ulcers. But until now, no techniques are able to perform absolute, non-invasive and repeated measurements of oxygenation directly in a tissue.
