This article presents the guidelines of the work of IWEPS to gradually develop a system of indicators complementing GDP, able to reflect current societal priorities and to assess the progress made by the Walloon society for the well-being of all citizens in a framework for sustainable development. The development process and analysis of the three first indicators developed by IWEPS in 2014 and 2015, in response to the decision of the Walloon Government, are explained: (1) the social situation index (ISS), (2) the index of conditions of well-being (ICBE) and (3) the ecological footprint (EE) and biocapacity (BC) of Wallonia.
