Malaria is an infectious tropical disease mainly affecting children and sub-Saharan Africa, being one of the major death causes with almost half of the world population at risk. Therefore and to face increasing parasite resistance to available treatments, there is an urgent need to discover new antimalarial drugs. Nature and mostly plants are a resourceful supplier of potential active metabolites, as shown by the successful example of the sesquiterpene lactone: artemisinin.
