In this manuscript, we are presenting the development of uncooled thermal sensors of the pyroelectric type, based on thin films of amorphous YBaCuO semiconductor, for applications in terahertz and infrared imaging. In a first part, we discuss the composition and optical properties of the YBaCuO semiconducting films. By X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we show the existence of a mixture of several phases and deduce the composition of the YBaCuO surface contamination layer; by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, we determine the YBaCuO work function.
