The Independence of Pamplona and all the other neogranadins popular movements of 1810 were, specifically, the creation of governing bodies by local councils and the assembled towns. Those bodies temporarily and chaotically reassumed sovereignty in order to preserve it in the name of King Ferdinand VII, kidnapped by napoleon troops. In this sense, Independences consisted in choosing self-government within the framework of monarchic crisis and following signs of political liberalism.
