This article is a response to the exhibition Hygiene: The Art of Public Health - a site-specific exhibition of artists' interventions at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in May-July 2002. The event raised the profile of the debate about artists making work on sites dedicated to scientific research and of the nature of art/science collaborations. This article is not intended to be a review of the exhibition - rather it is an opportunity to discuss issues that the artists responded to and the implications of staging these events with a particular focus on the curatorial process.
