In this paper, we present an approach to the design of a monitor in a parallel computing system. It is based on two models: the “computing environment model” and the “generic monitoring architecture model”. This approach is being used to develop Monitorix, a communication monitor for debugging and tuning the message communication between processes using a message router on a transputer-based machine
