This article attempts to define the characteristics of physical learning environments designed to meet current educational developments, which place the student at the heart of the educational process. In the 21st century, digital technology is a key driver of educational change. In terms of space design, there is a trend toward providing a diversity of environments and shapes to accommodate different activities and varied group sizes. Increasingly, learning environments include more and more spaces located outside the school boundaries, placing education at the heart of the communities. The constant developments in education involve a continual adaptation of space design, not only inside the schools but also beyond, taking account of the link between the different spaces, the community and the town
