Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic, idiopathic, intraoral pain syndrome. The cardinal symptom is burning pain in the mouth in the presence of normal appearance of oral mucosa without any local or systemic pathological conditions. BMS is a very common oral disorder and occurs most frequently in postmenopausal women. The exact etiology is still unclear and various theories have been suggested in the literature. It has a challenging diagnosis and treatment.
