All children are born with the ability for communication. Within the first few years of their life they go through many developmental stages until they master the language(s) they will use. “Language acquisition is part of the overall development of children physically, socially, and cognitively.” (Clark 181.) Many children are born in a family where two languages are used simultaneously and they will able to learn two or more languages at the same time. Most children encounter a second language after the age of three or four, and sooner or later they will start to acquire a second language.
