This study is an initial attempt to investigate the 2015 Broadway musical, Hamilton, and its effects on Broadway’s musical industry. The primary purpose of this paper is to explore how this new musical is able to break stereotypes and have an impact on its audience, while going against social norms, racism and dealing with criticism from the music industry. The thesis will attempt to give a detailed insight into the circumstances surrounding the writing and producing of the musical. Moreover, by analyses of various interviews and interpretations of the musical's song lyrics, the thesis will examine how Hamilton tries to break the stereotypical style of Broadway musicals in many forms.BSc/BAAnglisztikaB
