Dementia is one of the most common manifestations in the elderly in the western world. Although it can have various causes such as Vascular Dementia, Lewy body dementia, Parkinsonian dementia and frontotemporal dementia, the most common form of dementia is Alzheimer disease. It is no surprise that, as the life expectancy of the western world is increasing, the incidence of this disease is also increasing. This is primarily since it is a progressive disease whereby if the individual lives longer they have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
