Principles of occupational therapy in burned children

Pediatric burn injuries are devastating and can affect occupational performance lifelong. As secondary prevention, immediate multidisciplinary clinical treatment is essential to struggle for survival and minimize contractures and scarves that afterwards interfere with any performance of these clients. In pediatric burn injuries, the clients must be treated according to their developmental stage. This implicit naturally a combination between a top-down and a bottom-up approach for occupational therapists. This presentation show in the type of an instruction video the different tasks and strategies, occupational therapists at the Pediatric Burn Center, Department of Surgery, University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Switzerland implement to work with this fragile group of clients. It provides mainly information about major fields of clinical occupational therapy, illustrated by typical therapeutic situations
