The study concerns partial discharges (D.P.) in gaseous cavities between planar and parallel electrodes, under high alternating voltage, one of the electrodes being covered with solid or liquid insulators. The amplitude and number of discharges, measured using a four-capacitance bridge and the spatial distribution of the light emission, recorded using an image intensifier are obtained simultaneously. The instantaneous current measurements are recorded with a 400 MHz memory oscilloscope. For gas thicknesses ranging from 0.05 to 1 mm, we study the influence of the following parameters: gas renewal, U.V illumination, presence of insulating surfaces, on the appearance of three types of discharges called A-D.P.
